CCTV installation at R L Hughes Primary School
After a number vandalism incidents, the school approached AIS Security to help implement improvements to the sites security. The school is made up of a number of buildings and is set back from the main road. Its secluded location had made the site an attractive place for teenagers to congregate during the evening when the school was not in use.
AIS are specialists in the design and implementation of School Security Systems. After carrying out a full survey of the site, AIS designed and implemented a network based IP CCTV system that covered all of the key areas of vulnerability. The system comprised of the following key components:
1 x 16 Channel NVR with 4TB of data storage
4 x 3MP IP cameras with 30M IR
2 x 4 channel POE switches
1 x data cabinets
1 x cable infrastructure
Due to the layout of the site, the installation was broken down into 2 camera zones (one in each of the buildings that require cameras). Each zone consists of a POE switch and a number of cameras. The cameras in each zone were wired back to the appropriate switch and a single network connection was established back to the recording unit.
In addition to the cameras, 3 wide angled PIR movement detectors with a 50m range, were strategically positioned to cover the key approach routes to the site. In the event of a person walking into one of the beams, the system is set up to call a designated member of staff to alert them of a possible intruder.
This system allows for the school to be proactive in their security.
Since the implementation of the school CCTV system, there has not been an further vandalism at the site.
Prior to the installation, a full risk assessment and a method statement was prepared. All installation was carried out by staff with enhance DBS clearance.
Shortly after the initial installation, AIS were invited back to expand the system to 54 cameras.
In addition to this, AIS have now installaed a "state of the art" Biometric access control system which controls and monitors the movement of both Teachers and Pupils in key areas of the campus. Doors are now opened using a sophisticated fingerprint recognition system and or door entry fobs.
AIS continue to support and maintain the system under an annual maintenance contract.
