School CCTV Installation for Hayfield School in Doncaster
After a rigorous vetting process, AIS were asked to tender for the upgrade / replacement of the CCTV system at The Hayfield School in Doncaster.
AIS attended the site and carried out a full technical survey of the existing 90 camera analogue CCTV system, to determine the condition and performance of all of the key components. Having discussed the schools requirements in detail, and taking into consideration the age, condition and life expectancy of the cameras, recorders and cable infrastructure, it was decided that a complete replacement of all key components was necessary.
Based on our survey, AIS submitted a detailed plan, estimate, Risk Assessment & Method Statement and a number of references. We also produced a DBS enhanced certificate for all relevant engineers and installation staff. After a number of changes to the specification, AIS were awarded the contract to supply and install the following equipment:
4 x 32 channel NVRs (each with 12TB storage)
104 x 4MP cameras
3 x 2MP PTZ cameras
9 x POE switches
1 x wireless bridge
1 x fibre optic cable infrastructure
Patch panels & data cabinets
Cable (cat5 & fibre optic)
AIS installed a “state of the art” IP CCTV system. This will produce the best possible image quality, and allowed the system to be installed in a modular way. This is the neatest approach to this type of installation, and considerably reduced the amount of cabling required.
The installation was broken down into 8 zones. Each zone consists of a POE switch and a number of cameras. The cameras in each zone were wired back to the appropriate zone switch, and then a single fibre optic connection was established from each zone switch back to the location where the recording units are located.
AIS installed a 4 x 32 channel, rack mounted Network Video Recorders, and the network connections from each of the zones were connected to the recorders. The system has 48TB of data storage (expandable to 160TB).
The static cameras used in this installation are 104 x 4MP cameras with wide dynamic range, which provide excellent performance across a variety of different lighting conditions. The cameras have inbuilt IR and can see in the dark for 30M. Each camera can be set to have “privacy masking” which blocks out footage from sensitive areas.
In addition to the static cameras, the installation included 3 strategically placed external PTZ cameras (Pan Tilt & Zoom). The school can take control of these cameras and direct them to view any activity in that area. These PTZ cameras can see in complete darkness for 100m and have an incredible 20x optical zoom. As part of the installation process, the cameras were programmed to carry out a tour of the areas where problems have historically occurred.
The system was successfully installed on time and without issue, and represents a huge improvement in both image quality and usability over the legacy system.
AIS continue to support and maintain the system under an annual maintenance contract.
